The definition of success as I understand it is having a worthy goal and working consistently towards it. If you are doing that, you are a success regardless of what point in that process you are.

Only wanting your basic needs will keep you from having unachieved goals, but it also ensures you will never really achieve anything, and that's basically the opposite of success, at least according to my understanding of what success is.
