A set of lessons in morality and law, to guide everyone to be good and encourage kindness as well as instill fear to prevent any wrongdoing. Unfortunately open to interpretation and manipulation by those who seek to exploit humanity.

I'm not religious myself so I ask myself if there is a "Supreme Being" why does he or she allow all the violence, hatred, bigotry, and other evil to persist in this world?

Belief in a god is not necessary to understand the Bible.
Only to make excuses as to why it contains so many inconsistencies.

Believing in God helps to understand. The only consistencies there are are the ones you don’t believe in or understand . Christians don’t see them because they know what the Bible consist of. The Bible is God’s word. Look at the times we live in the Bible talks of this.

"Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" was a phrase made popular by Carl Sagan.

Laplace : "The weight of evidence for an extraordinary claim must be proportioned to its strangeness."

David Hume wrote in 1748 : "A wise man ... proportions his belief to the evidence"

Marcello Truzzi : "An extraordinary claim requires extraordinary proof."
