Interesting how one person's oppression is another's escape.
What do you mean?
Oh lots of examples but they tend to make people angry or defensive so here goes - not intended to be anything other than examples of what I mean - not interested in debating at this time.
- some think welfare oppresses the reciever, others think it gives them a way out of oppression.
- some think abortion rights provide freedom for women, some think it oppressed (murders) babies
- when I was in prison, a few there had no desire to get out they liked the structure of control and three squares.
I could go on, but that's the idea - the caged Bird still sings.
Thanks for the clarification.
"Unjust use of power to enforce an unequal relationship and deny another's rights or value."
Illegal immigration is a good example of that. Some people would have you believe that stopping illegal immigration is oppression, but look deeper. What does allowing illegal immigration do? Does it not effectively enforce an unequal relationship and deny people's rights and value? Does it not deny the value of American citizens? Does it not deny the value of American labor by denying illegals' labor rights?
If all the immigrants had come into the country through the correct legal process, they would have the same rights as any American, so they couldn't be exploited by unscrupulous employers. Or by unscrupulous politicians for that matter, who hold out the carrot of citizenship rights to foreigners, and oppose requiring ID to vote, trying to get political power out of injustice they perpetuate.
