Political Correctness

I consider myself polite. I find no issue adjusting my speech if it bothers someone. It won't kill me to do it, and I appreciate when people take into consideration my own feelings. It's not a big deal to me, never was: my mother simply taught me to be nice to other people, and I never enjoyed making people uncomfortable when I could avoid it. For some reason, though, I will be accused of being brainwashed, a libtard, a snowflake, someone who can't deal with the truth, weak, someone who supports censorship and so on... just because I'm aware there's a place and time for everything. No, not every PC person is a lunatic that wishes to shut up everyone that doesn't agree with them. There's plenty of people who are just okay with respecting each other and that's why they support PC culture. (and no, I'm not saying anti-PC people don't respect others - many don't, and that's why they're so against it, no doubt about that, but much like PC people, not everyone fits on the same bag).

Swipe to go to another post.

I feel stupid for having to explain this. It should be common sense. But nope - many hear PC and for them that automatically translate to "I AM CENSORSHIP INCARNATED". I get it, the bad ones are loud and they seem to be everywhere, but I promise you, there's plenty of reasonable people out there. They don't get news coverage simply because it's boring. Nothing shocking with being an average person.

Sofia i agree with you. doesn't take a genius to know what will hurt someones feelings. I think those who are not politically correct are probably not very smart and mean to boot.

Great commentary Sofia.

I was raised to be polite and mannerly to people and to avoid hurting people if at all possible. But to also stand up for myself. I respect other's opinions and I'm willing to listen, but on this site if you don't agree with someone, especially about politics, the fight begins.

Well said. :)

This extreme "against PC" view is something that doesn't seem to be common in Brazil.

I guess I'm "PC before PC was a thing" too. :P

Being offensive, because you can.
There is no good reason for that.

So was I. There was a time, back when I little kid in the 60's...that many people felt not slinging racial slurs or any insulting slurs at or towards people who were somehow different was simply being decent, caring about other people's feelings, and stuff.
There have always been those people, in the decades since. I'm no more okay with people using not being "PC" as some excuse and celebration for just being an insulting jerk, than I am for people being publicly crucified and their livelihoods almost destroyed because of something they said once.

I was raised to be kind and courteous to people. And I always am. I never hurt people by the sake of it.

I tend to have a mouth sometimes and I tend to say things that might frighten small children or nuns, but that said, I almost never swear. But even if one swears, it doesn't diminish anything. I can be vulgar, I can be profane, but I choose which words wisely. They are sentence enhancers as Patrick Star put it heh.

I'm not PC, and I'll even go so far as saying PC is a myth that people just say to scapegoat or blame. I blame the "Think of the children" crowd and the 'Religious Nutjobs", both play a part in PC-sizing things. Those who want to ban stuff just because it might hurt someone's feelings or it might hurt their god's feelings, as if he'd care what kind of **** I like.

The only kind of PC I recognise as real is the one I'm using to write this on.

However, I will make a note, the SJW-crowd that everyone loves to hate on. I mean, I take things on a scientific basis, even some pseudosciene has some sensibility in it, which makes me question everything I'm told. Especially this genderfluid thing and this and that, that either comes from Tumblr, or mob mentality that is riding on the basis of nothing.

Sometimes I just wonder why people can be so sensitive (and in-sensitive on the other spectrum). It's not a political thing, because it's a morality issue that encompasses a wide variety of people in every walks of life. Surely we have all sorts of information and education, but I can't help but wonder if the fault is the Internet. But, it falls to minorities, SJWs are minorities, anti-SJWs are minorities, PC-crowds are minorities, anti-PC are minorities. Religious nuts are minorities, even though religion itself is not.

Exactly my point. The idea of PC didn't make a change in my life, besides getting insults for fitting into the "label".

yeah well when PC says you can;t disagree with ISIS for beheading gays and christians, we have an issue. when PC says you can;t disagree with anything on the left we have an issue. being polite and kind is one thing but thats not what PC is about at least not today, not from what i have seen, it has been used by the left to silence different opinions (in general).

I don't think you got my point at all. The extreme is the only thing that get to the news, and that's why some people assume every PC is a lunatic that wants to shut down every different opinion. I'm saying that's not the case. "There's plenty of reasonable people out there. They don't get news coverage (and stay on the spotlight) simply because it's boring. Nothing shocking with being an average person." But the idea that every person that isn't against PC is like this is just false. But that is how they're sold and people buy it without a second of hesitation.

I do have to ask - who said you can't disagree with ISIS for beheading gays and Christians? Because that's psychotic. That kind of behaviour doesn't belong in an advanced society.

Same. I stopped expecting too much from people by my mid-teens. Irrational creatures are simpler. No bigotry or hypocrisy in them.
