They were hilarious back in the old days. From the days of John Belushi right up to Carvey, Myers, Sadler, Farley and the rest of the crew.
Now it sucks ... This PC things is killing all the entertaining fun. We live in a sad world ...
Haven't seen it except a recorded clip or two since the early 90's.
Those few, short clips were enough to inform me that the initials SNL were now synonymous with PPPCBS..."Pro-Progressive-Politically-Correct-Bull-S***.
Maybe that's the way its always been behind the scenes, and the producers decided it was time to get aggressively Progressive...Who knows?
Not for me, but for those who enjoy it, go for it.
I havent watched it in years. But....they spoofed every president since the beginning.
Chevy chase as a bumbling gerald ford?
It's just that this administration is so full of gaffes. Every comedy writers dream. Just has gotten old now. No longer very funny, just depressing.
I've never watched it too often, they've imitated every president that I can think of. The best portrayal in my opinion was that of Sean Spicer. That was really funny.
I used to watch SNL in my teens and early 20s (early to mid 2000s) but I lost interest over time when the familiar faces started leaving and being replaced with people who simply couldn't fill their shoes. I stopped watching it about 10 years ago, and 5 years ago I decided to give it another go. I was just sitting there thinking, "Is this supposed to be funny?!"
Maybe it wasn't *that* funny back when I watched it and I'm just looking back on it with rose coloured glasses, but as of 5 years ago, it was unwatchable. I haven't even seen any of the more recent episodes.
SNL has been on TV for so many years that cancelling it now would feel like the end of an era, even though it's not at all good anymore. Just like if the Simpsons was cancelled.
I honestly think it has gotten it's second wind this last year. It went through a period where it was straining to get jokes, now Trump has fixed that.
The only part I liked about the show was the news portion with chevy chase, gilda radner, and jane curtain, out of the 80s (?) After they left the show, most things got to be a little too corny.
