I personally don't think it's weakness to want or need help to get through a very difficult situation.

I don't think it is weak to have your life saved by someone.

Me neither. I've had a friend who I consider to be a very strong person because of the way she handled an extremely difficult situation, and the fact that she was saved by someone doesn't diminish her strength to me.

I agree.

I have 2 guys that watch over me online too. They have come to my rescue many times. I can cope just as easily without them but people like them are one in a million.

In response to “I don't think it is weak to have your life...

Certainly, someone's life being saved by another person is not a sign of weakness on the part of the saved.

I guess I just don't think that way, that if I'm in a difficult situation I feel I need a Hero.

I'm more of a take action myself kind of guy. I have been in some tuff situations before. But I don't wait for someone to show up to help me.

If someone offers a hand to help Great I'll take all I can get.

The question though didn't seem to be in posed as life and death matter, hence my reaction of weakness to it.

Ok, wanting or needing help is a far cry (to me anyways) from needing a "hero"

True. I wasn't being very clear when I wrote that. Let me rephrase. What I meant is just that "needing a hero" (needing to be rescued from a very difficult situation) doesn't automatically mean weakness (to me at least).

In response to “True. I wasn't being very clear when I wrote...

Ok lets look at it this way. When you are down for whatever reason and friend or even a total strange lends you a hand.

That's a very good thing. For me attaching the hero moniker tends to diminish their good dead.

I have seen people who have truly done what could be considered heroic.

But the last thing they ever wanted was to be recognized as such.

Like Capt. Sullenberger who ditched his plane in the Hudson river and saved everyone on -boards life.

Now if I had to pick someone did a heroic thing it would be him.

Yet he didn't want any of the notoriety. To him he was just doing what he knew to do in an emergency situation.

Yes. I see your point, and I agree that calling someone a "hero" and giving them unwanted notoriety is not necessarily the best way of appreciating their good deed.

There have been times, when I have been scared shitless. Well, perhaps some poo may have come out and that is the major contributor to that said situation.

Yes and no.

Even now I think I'm a weak person, an alcoholic and stupid ****. I can't really take care of myself. So, perhaps I do need a hero, but the one thing that saves people most is feeling loved and knowing, that you are loved. Some shit you have control over, some you don't.

It's the most basic thing in the world. I'm not into Jebus stuff, but the Christian values are basically good ones. Too bad nobody seems to care about them, most of all those with most power in the world.

Chihuahuas are completely unaware of their own size, when compared to other dogs. Really, really, stupid dogs - and irritating. My former neighbor had two and I used to shout at them: "Kill the **!" whenever a much larger dog came about and those little ** started barking at it like crazy mofos.
